Father charged with attempted murder of young daughter has court hearing postponed

The bedside court hearing of an Adelaide father charged with the attempted murder of his young daughter has been postponed.

Shaun Mate's lawyer told the Christies Beach Magistrates Court he woke from a coma on Sunday and remains in intensive care with pneumonia.

Magistrate Kym Millard has ordered a psychiatric assessment before a bail hearing scheduled in the Adelaide Magistrates Court for next week.

Mate, 43, is accused of trying to kill his three-year-old daughter at the family home at Eden Hills, in Adelaide's south, on Thursday night.

The pair was found by police unconscious in a bedroom following an urgent call for assistance.

They were both taken to hospital in a critical condition and officers were later seen removing at least four gas canisters from the home.

Mate was charged with attempted murder on Sunday at the Flinders Medical Centre, while the girl is now in a stable condition at the Women's and Children's Hospital.

A woman and another child were also at the scene but were not harmed, police said on Friday.
