Father and two daughters die after horror blaze rips through apartment in Southern California

A father and his two daughters have died after a fire tore through an apartment in Southern California.

The 41-year-old man died after trying to rush back in to the home to save his girls, aged four and 12, police said.

His son, eight, was also injured in the fire, which broke out in the city of Hemet, on Friday morning.

He is being treated in hospital.

Seven people were in the second-floor unit in an apartment complex when the fire broke out, said Hemet police spokesman Nate Miller.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, though Mr Miller said there was nothing to indicate any criminal aspect.

The Red Cross was caring for 15 people displaced by the fire.

Hemet is around 75 miles south east of Los Angeles.
