Father and son killed in Kanturk shooting to be laid to rest in Cork today as separate funeral held for second son

A father and son killed in a horror triple shooting in Kanturk, Co. Cork will be laid to rest today.

Funeral masses will be held today for 59-year-old Tadgh O'Sullivan and his 23-year-old son Diarmuid who were both killed in an apparent murder suicide in the remote farm this week.

Their funerals will take place today at St Mary's Church in Castlemagner, with burial afterwards in St Brigid's Cemetery.

Tadgh O'Sullivan and his two sons Mark and Diarmuid all died in a horror triple shooting on a remote farm in Kanturk, Co. Cork.

It’s understood 26-year-old Mark died first in an upstairs bedroom of the family farmhouse.

Mechanic Tadgh and younger son Diarmuid sustained fatal gunshot wounds in a field 600 metres away.

A separate funeral mass will be held for Mark at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kanturk, at 3.30pm on Saturday.

There are no details as yet of the burial arrangements for the older brother Mark.

Both funeral masses will be private for the family only, in line with current restrictions.

Mother Ann O'Sullivan is the only surviving member of the family after the horrific incident.

It’s believed there had been a simmering row about land and inheritance between the three.

A 'detailed' note was found on the body of Diarmuid O'Sullivan (PA)

However, gardai dismissed reports they had called to the O’Sullivan home previously in relation to any altercation.

Mark was a trainee solicitor and had recently completed a Masters in corporate law at UCC.

It is understood he had previously attended University of Limerick for his undergraduate degree, where he earned an award from the president of the university.

Diarmuid O'Sullivan had been due to be conferred next week with a First Class Honours degree in Accounting after completing his studies in the summer.

Two autopsies were conducted on Tuesday to try to establish how the father and two sons lost their lives.

After the three post-mortem exams were conducted on Wednesday, a garda spokesman said: "The post mortem on all three of the deceased men has now been completed.

"The results of the post mortem have been given to investigating Gardaí, details of which will not be disclosed.

"A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Coroner.

"No further details are available."
