Father and daughter injured in crash between motorbike and car in Wigan

A father and daughter have been taken to hospital after a crash in Wigan.

The pair were travelling on a motorbike when it collided with a car in Atherton Road, Hindley Green, at about 12.30pm on Saturday.

Firefighters from Atherton Fire Station came across the incident on their way back from another job.

Crews delivered first aid to the pair before they were taken to hospital.

The man was complaining of pain to his leg and ribs, while his nine-year-old daughter had an injury to her knee.

Following the crash, police shut Atherton Road in both directions between Swan Lane and Maple Avenue.

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing several emergency services vehicles at the scene, near to Aldi.

Phil Dearden, crew manager at Atherton Fire Station, said: "We came across a collision between a car and a motorbike at about 12.30pm.

"The rider of the bike had leg pain and rib pain. He also had his nine-year-old daughter on the bike and she had knee pain, so they were taken to hospital as a precaution.

"We delivered initial first aid then handed over to the paramedics and police."
