A father who went to the pub and allegedly left one child in the car on a day of record heat in NSW, and another child at home unsupervised, has been charged.
Yesterday, the 43-year-old man allegedly parked on the Hume Highway at Yagoona, in Sydney's west, and left his three-year-old son in the car while he entered the Hume Hotel.
The child became distressed in the car and police were called to the scene and forced their way into the car to retrieve the young boy.
It is also alleged the man left his two-year-old son at his Yagoona home at the same time.
Both children were taken to Bankstown Hospital for assessment.
The man was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with leaving a child in a motor vehicle causing distress, neglecting a child in his care and resisting arrest.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before Parramatta Local Court next week.
Family and Community Services have been notified of the incident.
Yesterday, temperature records were broken as the east coast sweltered through a heatwave.
In Sydney's west, it was 36.4C at Richmond, and records were set in other parts of the state.
Previously the hottest September day on record in New South Wales was set in 2004 at 39.6C, however Andrew Hague from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said Wilcania airport reached 40.5C, Whitecliffe recorded 40.3C, Delta reached 40.2C and Bourke, 40C.
