Fate of Liverpool Jack's stores as closures announced

Tesco announced it will be closing seven of the 13 Jack's discount stores with the remainder becoming supermarkets.

Some 130 jobs will be affected by the closures announced on Monday, January 31 and the company has released a list of locations affected by the changes.

Merseyside has four Jack's supermarkets in North Liverpool, Edge Hill, Walton and St Helens.

The North Liverpool, Walton and St Helens branches will be completely closed while Edge Hill will be turned into a large Tesco store.

The supermarket giant also announced it will be closing fish, meat and deli counters across 317 of its supermarkets where it has seen "lowest demand" amid changes in customer habits.

The counter closures will impact hundreds of workers, although the retailer did not disclose the total number of affected staff.

Tesco UK and Republic of Ireland chief executive Jason Tarry said: "Our Jack's brand will continue to be sold across Booker and our symbol brands, bringing great value and quality to even more customers.

"We want to thank our Jack's colleagues for all they have done and taught us.

"Our priority is to find roles within our wider business for all the colleagues who want to stay with us."
