Fate decided for Leeds street in running to become Britain's friendliest street

It was mixed emotions for a group of residents in Leeds this week after narrowly missing out in the competition to become 'Britain's Friendliest Street'.

Eden Crescent was one of nine streets in competing for the title.

The Kirkstall street missed out on the top spot but did wrap up more than 4,000 votes!

It was enough for the street to clinch third spot in the standings though, behind winners Pemberton Road in Wigan and Cedar Road in Twickenham.

The winner of the competition won a copy of the #PostersForThePeople from the Leeds-based business In Good Company.

The posters are a part of a national campaign to say Thank you to all the people who are keeping the nation running.

Eden Crescent was nominated after residents of the streets expressed how they have come together during the coronavirus lockdown.

They said: "Since COVID started our street's WhatsApp group has grown from a handful of people to 107 people now sharing, supporting and generating a community spirit.

"Although in lockdown we have all got to know each other so well."
