Fatal house fire in Arnold not being treated as suspicious, police confirm

A fatal house fire in Arnold on Monday is not being treated as suspicious, a joint police and fire investigation has confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the fire in Merton Close just after 8pm on July 1.

The house and two adjoining properties were evacuated as the fire was dealt with.

A body was recovered from the property. Formal identification has not yet taken place.

Two fire investigation vans and a police crime scene investigation car were parked on the small cul-de-sac,

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A file will be prepared for the coroner and identification of the deceased will be a matter for the coroner.
