Fatah Official Blames Hamas for Not Ending Divisions

Fatah movement Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad accused the Hamas movement of not being serious about ending its rift with the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the West Bank.

Ahmad noted that Egypt, who is acting as a mediator to broker peace between warring Palestinian parties, has proposed ideas to end the divisions arising from differences regarding the implementation of the 2017 agreement signed with Hamas.

Ahmad, in a statement to the Voice of Palestine radio on Saturday, confirmed that “Fatah had examined proposals and sent a written message addressed to Egypt reverberating its position.”

He added that Egypt's decision not to send its mediating delegation to the Gaza Strip and not to make any contact with any of the parties was a result of statements made by Hamas via its media spokesmen on the 25th of last month refusing to hand over control of the Rafah border crossing.

He stressed that Hamas does not have the will to end divisions and is trying to sustain it.
