The Football Association of Thailand on Monday unveiled Alexandre Gama as coach of the U23 team.
The Brazilian succeeds Worrawoot Srimaka, who was sacked after the team's first-round exit at the 2018 Asian Games.
The 50-year-old got the job after guiding Thai League 1 side Chiang Rai United to success in the League Cup and FA Cup last month.
Under him, the Beetles also won the 2017 FA Cup.
"I am very happy to be appointed coach of the U23 team,'' said Gama. "It's a great honour."
He said working with young players should not be a problem for him as he used to be coach of the youth teams of Brazil's clubs Fluminense and Internacional.
His main task will be to lead Thailand to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
"I like working with young players because there are still many things for them to learn. I believe that I can help them make progress."
Gama should know a lot about Thai football.
He arrived in Thailand in 2014 and helped Buriram United win four major domestic titles during his three-year stint at the Thunder Castle.
He joined Chiang Rai United in 2017 and steered them to three Cup titles in two years.
