Fat Hippo announces opening date for Nottingham burger restaurant

The countdown has begun after gourmet burger company Fat Hippo announced an opening date for its new Nottingham restaurant.

Pledging “the good kind of gluttony” burger lovers will be able to sink their teeth into Stinky Pete (a double beef patty topped with blue cheese, onion jam and jalapeños), Hangover lll (buttermilk chicken, cheese, smoked bacon, lettuce, pickles, BBQ sauce and ranch) and - if you're REALLY hungry, 4x4 (four patties topped with streaky bacon, cheese and Fat Hippo burger sauce).

Vegans have five plant-based patties to choose from, with names such as Bloody Harrelson, Oprah Sin-Free and Notorious VFC 2.0.

The company, which has five branches in the north of England including Durham and Sheffield, will open its sixth site in Hockley.

It will be November - the exact date yet to be announced - that it throws open the doors of the restaurant in Broad Street.

Details about how to book will be revealed shortly.

Adam Nattrass, who lives in Nottingham said: "The restaurants in Newcastle and Jesmond are excellent. As an exiled Geordie this is exciting."

The restaurant will be located in a spot that has previously been Mexican restaurant and bar El Capo and the Rum House. Most recently it was dog-friendly pub, Hockley Rebel, until its closure last year.

The Fat Hippo launched in Jesmond, near Newcastle, in 2010. One review described it as having "the best burgers in all of Newcastle."

The happy customer said: "Every time I come to Fat Hippo, it gets better every time. The quality of the food is NEXT LEVEL; everything tastes so fresh and delicious (and there are no soggy burger buns).

"My favourite burger may have to be the Hangover III, the chicken is so crispy and tasty."
