FAT enlists the help of Spain's Romagosa

FAT technical chief Carles Romagosa.

Carles Romagosa was unveiled as the technical director of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) yesterday.

The Spaniard is a former coach of Barcelona's youth team and played a role in grooming some fine players such as Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba.

Romagosa said he would use his knowledge and experience to help in the development of Thai football.

"I have to understand the structure and culture first," he said.

"I believe I can help the Thai players, coaches and clubs. We have to put everything in place to help the Thai national teams get good results."

The Spaniard said he will first delve into the Thai team's performances in their recent games.

"I want the Thai national team to become successful and move forward, but to be able to achieve that I will have to carefully analyse their performances and results," said Romagosa.

"We must have some philosophy, technology and a clear direction.

"We will develop an approach but the most important thing is that we have to understand the context first.

"Everything must move in the same direction, starting from ages 14, 16 and 18.

"Every team will have to adopt the same pattern of development.

"I will try to build up every national team so that they can all deliver good results. The new approach should not only include the players, but the coaches as well.

"All players, regardless of which national team they belong to, should follow the same route to development."
