Fast Retailing Co., the operating company of Uniqlo, has announced it will award wheelchair tennis legend Shingo Kunieda, who won the gold medal in men's singles at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, with 100 million yen.

Kunieda, 37, who is sponsored by the company, was the captain of the Japanese team. It was his third time winning the title in men's singles and his first time since the 2012 London Games. The 100 million yen will be paid out by the company and Tadashi Yanai, the company's chairman, president and chief executive officer.

"It's such high praise, I was shaking when they told me about it," Kunieda said. "I hope to continue doing well so I can live up to the honor."
