'Fast jet banker' takes top finance job at Provident Financial

A former RAF fighter pilot who went on to have a 10-year career with RBS has been appointed to the top finance job at lending group Provident Financia l.

Neeraj Kapur - who describes himself on Twitter as a 'fast jet banker' - will become chief finance officer at Provident on 1 April 2020, replacing Simon Thomas who is stepping down from the role for personal health reasons. Kapur is currently group chief financial officer of challenger bank Secure Trust.

Malcolm Le May, chief executive of Provident Financial, said Kapur has “deep retail banking, consumer finance and savings experience and expertise, and will be an excellent addition to the senior leadership team as we continue to re-establish Provident Financial as the market leading sub-prime lender”.

Kapur was a fighter pilot in the RAF before joining Arthur Andersen as a trainee accountant in 1990. He later joined RBS as a senior finance manager in Edinburgh, before becoming head of manufacturing finance operations. He was also head of finance integration for Ulster Bank.
