Fast food worker groped terrified customer in Glasgow city centre

A fast food worker who groped a terrified customer then asked for her phone number faces a jail sentence.

Alaa Khalifa, 36, pounced on the woman, who was in her mid-twenties, on September 13, 2018.

The girl had visited Lazord Syrian Street Food in Glasgow city centre after a night out and charged her phone.

She forgot to take it and came back the next day where Khalifa repeatedly kissed her then attacked her.

The frightened victim, who has since died, was only able to say “not here” through the horror ordeal.

Khalifa pled guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to sexual assault.

The court heard the woman was drunk when she asked Khalifa to charge her phone before leaving.

The woman was led to the stock room the following day where she felt “uneasy at being alone” with Khalifa.

Prosecutor Laura Bradley said: “He moved towards her and began to kiss her, she tried to evade his kiss by moving her head away.

“She was unable to move away from him as he was holding on to her.

“She felt panicked and told Khalifa ‘not here’.”

Khalifa then lifted her dress before committing a further attack.

Miss Bradley said: “The woman was too fearful to tell Khalifa to stop and froze and was only able to say ‘not here’.

“She managed to get back from him and stated that she just wanted her phone.

“Khalifa handed over the phone and asked her for her number.

“She was frightened and provided a fake number and exited calmly as she was scared Khalifa would know she was scared of him and would try to keep her there.”

The woman later contacted the police.

Haroon Malik, defending, will make his plea in mitigation at next month's sentencing.

Sheriff Andrew Cubie put Khalifa on the sex offenders register meantime pending background reports.
