Fast and Furious 9: New clip shows stars racing down famous Edinburgh streets

A new clip for the much-anticipated Fast and Furious 9 film has been released - and Edinburgh locals may just recognise many of the locations featured in the footage.

In the new 56-second piece of film shared online, lead stars Vin Diesel, John Cena and Michelle Rodriquez can be seen in an exhilarating getaway chase along Edinburgh's West Port towards Lothian Road.

John Cena has a serious scuffle on Calton Road with Waverley and Leith Street in the background as he steals a vehicle, with Rodriquez and Diesel in a huge lorry.

The vehicles screech past Edinburgh's infamous 'Pubic Triangle' on West Port, past a sign which shows directions towards Glasgow and Galashiels as well as Edinburgh Napier's Riego Street halls of residence.

Cena then has his car torn through a building due to a huge magnet - yes really - which locals have hypothesised may be The Chanter and lands inside the back of the lorry in the quick clip.

One Edinburgh local tweeted: "t’s nice to see a film that doesn’t just revert to the usual picture postcard settings. I trust that no stag parties were harmed in the filming of this sequence."

The cast and crew of Fast and Furious 9 took over the capital in September 2019 - filming in 11 locations across Edinburgh including George Street, Royal Mile and the Museum of Scotland.

The film is set to be released in the UK on June 24.
