Fashion Sakala admits speaking with Steven Gerrard was the moment he knew Rangers were the club for him.
The KV Oostende striker is set to join the Scottish Premiership champions this summer after agreeing a pre-contract at Ibrox.
Sakala, who reportedly attracted interest from across Europe, was personally courted by Gerrard before deciding he to make the move to Glasgow.
And it was from hearing from the Liverpool legend that pushed him towards Rangers.
He told Studio Ken: “Yeah, it was such an amazing feeling.
“After Steven Gerrard talked to me, I believed that this was the right time for me to make a move to Rangers.”
The 24-year-old's rise from extreme poverty in Zambia has been well-documented, with the young Sakala hunting wild animals just to help feed his family.
His footballing talent eventually brought him to Spartak Moscow's reserves before switching to Belgium in 2018.
But he insists his newfound riches don't matter
“Honestly, I came from a very poor family,” Sakala said. “I came from a very poor family and it was very difficult for us to survive. For us to survive, I was the one killing animals in the bush – I was the hunter.
"“I will never consider myself as a rich person.
"What I want in my life is not to celebrate my riches, it’s to celebrate the great personality that I have towards people.”
