Tinie Tempah, musician I like the top half of this outfit: it’s that very British look with labels such as Albam and YMC. The trousers let it down, though; I don’t know where they start and end. And the laces on his right shoe are undone. You can’t get caught out like that.
Jess Cartner-Morley, fashion editor Capaldi is all about the eyes, and the salt-and-pepper hair. Which is lucky, because the rest of the outfit is meh at best. The cardigan, the hands in pockets: the good Doctor has time-travelled to the early noughties, and is the Kind But Unexciting Husband, played by Colin Firth, in a Richard Curtis film. If I’m honest, I’m pining for a tucked-in shirt and a box-fresh trainer. Photograph: Rex Features
TT This look has the most in common with mine. I love it, bar the shirt. The jeans are a good Japanese denim, and I like that he’s not wearing socks. I wouldn’t wear the hat, but it’s a bit of a thing for him.
JCM Williams has the rictus pout of a man who spends too much time admiring his reflection, so I’m puzzled how he has failed to notice that his jeans are so badly rolled up. Maybe he has a minion do the rolling for him? If so: sack the minion, because that wonky roll-up is more Cornish beach paddle than Paris fashion week strut. Not even the holy combination of ponyskin Céline loafers and a Chanel rosary can save it. Photograph: Rex Features
TT Smart casual. I like the details – Air Max Ones, the cuffs on the T-shirt. The watch is classic and takes the look up a notch. This look is everywhere on the high street.
JCM The Styles brand is all about the mix of puppy and scoundrel. The way he looks as if he’s just lolloped down from his teenage bedroom for a bowl of Coco Pops, even if he’s actually been up playing poker and breaking hearts for 24 hours straight. The white T-shirt is classic, and this design is by Ashley Williams, Pixie Geldof’s fashion designer flatmate. Sleeves are rolled up like this by men who wish to look a bit Brando while showing off their biceps/tattoos: so be warned, they are not as wholesome as they look. Photograph: Rex Features
TT A classic. I like the cut of the blazer, and the pocket square's a nice touch. But I’m not too keen on the cut of the trouser; I don’t think they flatter his footballer’s legs. The famous haircut is great, though.
JCM The suit is sharp, the skinny silhouette suits him, the tie pin is right, the shoes are immaculately polished. Yet the effect is so… generic. This is the Footballer At The GQ Man Of The Year Awards look, which is the male equivalent of the Made In Chelsea Chick At Party Sponsored By A Random Hair Product look. There is no personality. It’s the visual equivalent of a post-match interview. Photograph: Getty Images Europe
TT In my experience, fashion designers go for either a classic suit, something eccentric, or standard jeans and a T-shirt. Jacobs has gone for eccentric here. I don’t like the fit. The scarf and jacket look good together, though, especially with his beard. He should have gone for all black underneath.
JCM Here is Jacobs, at a promotional event for Coca-Cola, which is presumably paying him a lot of money, and he turns up in his pyjamas. The references here are Americana’s dark side: Margot in The Royal Tenenbaums, with her fur coat and drug store hairclips; and Edie Beale in Grey Gardens, in her mangy mink. Also: prisoners. You say bratty; I say subversive. Photograph: Rex Features
TT He’s gone for a high-end streetwear look with Visvim trainers and oversized sweater. The pop of the white T-shirt works and the ripped jeans look authentic. The fit of the sweater is perfect: it goes over his hands, but looks as if it’s meant to be like that. Kanye might have made fashion mistakes, but he’s nailed it now.
JCM There are so many references here it shouldn’t work, but there’s a strange kind of egotistical harmony that is pure Kanye. The jumper is Withnail And I, so you’ve got the studenty dropout thing, and the jeans are Kings Road punk, ripped rather than delicately frayed. The desert boots are mod, and the necklace is almost Public Enemy. How can you not love this man? Photograph: Rex Features
