Fashion giant PrettyLittleThing ask Manchester City Council to rename a street after them...but it's in Salford

Fashion brand PrettyLittleThing have written to Manchester City Council to ask for a street to be named after them.

The Fashion Retail Giant, favoured by Love Island contestants such as Molly Mae-Hague, say they have written to Manchester City Council to ask for Unicorn Street in Eccles to be renamed to ‘PrettyLittle Unicorn Street.’

They claim this is in order to make them a ‘physical and permanent presence’ in the city in which they were born.

The slight problem is that Eccles is in Salford and therefore the responsibility of Salford City Council. Nor would the physical presence be in the city centre.

PrettyLittleThing - part of the BooHoo group - started life as a simple market stall in Manchester and is now one of the biggest names in the fashion trade.

The brand was co-founded in 2012 by Umar Kamani and his brother Adam Kamani.

It started with an accessory-only brand with limited products on the site - but now it is one of the top online shopping destinations for millions of shoppers.

It was owned by the Kamani brothers until January 2017, before being acquired by their father's company. The brand predicts being worth around £2.1 billion by 2022.

In the letter, addressed to Manchester City Council, Albert Square PrettyLittleThing say: "We're writing in regards to Unicorn Street, Eccles, Manchester. We've got a proposition for you.

"Hear us out.

"To us at PrettyLittleThing, the unicorn is a symbol of uniqueness, courage, strength and rarity.

"These symbols are not only part of the Pretty Little Thing brand ethos but part of Mancunian culture itself.

"With this in mind we feel as a fundamental part of Manchester we should be made a physical and permanent presence by adding "PrettyLittle" as a prefix to Unicorn Street, therefore creating Pretty Little Unicorn Street as a symbol of the birthplace of PrettyLittle Thing."

The fashion giant have a headquarters based in Manchester where they boast of having one golf buggy, two unicorns, five studios and 400 mirrors.

The brand describes it as ‘a place where you come to find confidence and inspiration’.

A confused spokesperson for Manchester City Council said however, that as the street is in Salford they are unable to comment.

"This is 100% Salford, so PLT have just got this one wrong I'm afraid.

"In such a case, there's nothing for us to comment on.

"Thanks for flagging though, it might be worth letting their marketing team know about the error."

PrettyLittleThing were approached but declined to comment.
