Fashion entrepreneur teams up with autism charity and Harvey Price after challenging childhood

Scunthorpe entrepreneur Ben Pearson has been selected as an ambassador of national autism charity, Anna Kennedy Online, after opening up about his battle with the condition while growing up in the care system.

Ben, founder and chief executive of £5 million turnover firm BigClothing4U, was diagnosed with autism at an early age, before being placed in the care system at 10 years old.

In a recent interview with Dr Anna Kennedy OBE, the founder of the eponymous charity, Ben revealed that his autism made feeling accepted in care challenging.

The 27-year-old told how he had “faced more challenges than most,” from battling homelessness to mental health issues and suicide attempts. Since, he has used his voice to create change, including his most recent t-shirt collection with fellow ambassador Harvey Price, son of model Katie Price and footballer Dwight Yorke.

He was born with a rare genetic disorder, septo-optic dysplasia and Prader-Willi syndrome, is partially blind and diagnosed with autism.

The Harvey’s Law Collection is a collaboration with his brand Uptheir Clothing, raising awareness of the work against online trolling.

Ben said: “It’s a great honour and privilege to be a chosen ambassador for such a disruptive and innovative charity.

“As someone with autism, I’ve often been misunderstood. I wish that I had someone like Anna and her incredible charity growing up to help champion change.

“I’m excited to use my platform to help others with autism and create change. Watch this space!”

BigClothing4U, based in Dunlop Way, specialises in larger sizes, opening up more stylish ranges, with comfort at heart. Completely online, it launched in 2015, a 15-strong team of merchandisers, marketing professionals and warehouse staff now in place.

Growth has also come through the acquisition of some competitors.

Anna Kennedy Online, launched after her two sons were diagnosed as being on the spectrum, provides support for those with autism and their families as well as providing crucial awareness for autism through school and workplace workshops.
