Farnworth entertainer creates his own music festival to give life to 'forgotten town'

The man set to bring Farnworth its first music festival says he feels his home has become a "forgotten town".

Gary Daniels lives just a few streets away from Farnworth Cricket Club where the event will be held on the May 24 bank holiday.

Farnworth Live include a range of popular tribute bands, including covers of Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams and Freddie Mercury, with the aim of attracting as many as 2,000 people.

And, for Mr Daniels, it is a chance to bring some more life into his home town.

"I chose to do the festival here because it feels like a forgotten town," he said.

"There's never enough happening and especially nothing like this."

It is especially important to Mr Daniels that the festival is a family affair - having just had a baby girl of his own - and he hopes this inaugural event will be successful enough to return next year.

He said: "My wife has just had a new baby so I look at her and I want to create something that her and all the other youngsters and families will able to grow up with."

The 30-year-old singer is pleased with how preparations are going for the festival so far, with live music set to be accompanied by food stalls, fairground rides and two bars.

He said: "I'm really excited, it's going to be something for all the family and it's local. People from round here won't have to travel miles to go and enjoy themselves.

"And, it will hopefully building up local business, there's lots of companies who have got involved in sponsorship already.

"The acts are great, I've worked with most of them on numerous occasions and they are all top standard."

Any profits from the event will be used to fund charitable causes, including Bolton Hospice, Derian House Children's Hospice and Halshaw Moor Football Club, a team that Mr Daniels has been involved with for 15 years.

"I've run that team since I was just 15," he explained.

"The lads have been there since they were five years old so I want to do something good and hopefully take them somewhere in Europe on a tour."
