Farmers speak about drought effects

Tasmanian farmers are talking to a Federal Government committee about the emotional impact of the drought.

More than 50 people are attending the meeting at Bothwell in the Midlands.

Bothwell is the only Tasmanian stop for the committee, which is considering the social impacts of the drought.

It is part of a three-pronged Federal Government review of Drought Assistance. Farmers have told the panel about the financial and emotional strain caused by three years of drought - the panel has heard many farmers have clinical depression and their families and the wider community are also suffering.

At least one farmer says without decent spring rains the situation will become far worse.
