Feeding the world’s increasingly hungry cities is a daunting prospect. Today, 54% of the world’s population live in urban areas, and this is expected to reach 66% by 2050. Food insecurity will be a particular challenge in the global south where rapid urbanisation is expected to result in 62% of the population living in urban areas in Africa and 65% in Asia by 2050.
Is urban farming a sustainable solution? Whether you are working on a vertical farm in your city centre, or growing broccoli out of on an old tyre on your balcony, we want to hear from you. Getting involved is really straightforward - take a picture of what you are growing and tell us about it. At the end of the project we will use the most interesting examples of innovative urban farming in our reporting.
