Farmers begin rail roko in Amritsar

DEVIDASPURA (AMRITSAR): To push for their demands, including complete waiver of loans of farmers and labourers, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) activists disrupted rail traffic by staging a sit-in on the Amritsar-Delhi railway track at Devidaspura, near Amritsar on Monday.

Apart from women and children from farming families, a group of agitating ‘corona warriors’ and other class IV employees have joined the stir to build pressure on the state government.

Stating that the ‘rail roko morcha’ would continue till the next announcement, KMSC general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher said they were in for the long haul.

While addressing the farmers, KMSC state president Satnam Singh Pannun said the Punjab government had assured to resolve all the issues of farmers and labourers during a meeting held with a group of ministers on September 29. “But the government didn’t fulfil its promises which forced us to sit on the railway track,” he added.

Another leader Gurbachan Singh Chabba said if the government didn’t accept their demands then the morcha would be extended and laid on three more places from Wednesday.
