Farmer Wants A Wife’s Annual Country Ball took place on Monday night, and while the farmers and their ladies were having a rootin’ tootin’ time on the dance floor, a very familiar face was performing on stage.
Amy Sheppard, best known as the blue-haired lead vocalist of the Aussie family band Sheppard, made a surprise appearance in the episode, providing the soundtrack for the romantic evening.
The Brissy-based musician told PEDESTRIAN.TV she landed a spot on the reality show thanks to her band’s longstanding relationship with Channel 7, having made appearances on Sunrise, The Morning Show and Better Homes and Gardens.
“My new album, Born to be Country, had just come out and they heard a few songs and reached out to us, so the timing was perfect,” she shared. “Even though it was filmed toward the end of last year — and I was about 20 weeks pregnant — I thought it would be a lot of fun, and it was!”
What’s it like filming an episode of Farmer Wants A Wife?
Amy revealed that she flew from Brisbane to the Hunter Valley to film the episode, and she had a “great day on set” with her band members Ben Mackay and Lee Novak.
“It was a full day of rehearsals, set up, and then in the evening we filmed the ball. The crew were super friendly, and the property was beautiful,” she recalled.
Although viewers only saw three short snippets of her performance, Amy actually sang six original songs at the event. She also admitted that her performance was filmed once without the contestants, “so they had a lot of footage to work with”, and another time after they arrived and filled out the space.
“We did a closed set rehearsal with my band and the camera crew in the afternoon, then the second time was with all the farmers and the ladies,” she explained.
“The set design was beautiful, and they turned what would’ve been a humble work shed into a very magical stage. Thankfully, they got everything in those six songs, so I didn’t need to sing any twice!”
What did she learn about the farmers and their ladies?
Unfortunately, Amy didn’t have the opportunity to chat with any of the farmers or their contestants during her brief appearance, so she couldn’t get a vibe on their relationships.
“I’ve got no tea, unfortunately, on which couples looked strong or not. We were kept a little separate, so didn’t get to learn their names or who were the ‘frontrunners’, but there were definitely some couples who looked like they were falling for each other,” she spilled.
She did, however, notice that the general atmosphere was “fun with high energy like they were all enjoying the process.
“I did see them quite a bit around the set, and they all looked beautiful,” she said. “They’d been filming at another location all day prior, so I’m sure they were tired, but they turned out and danced through my whole set!”
Amy added she’s “super keen” to see how the rest of the season plays out, and if the first few episodes are anything to go by with so many surprise exits, truly anything can happen.
