Farmer's son killed while processing crop residue in Haryana's Jind

JIND: In a tragic incident, the only son of a farmer lost his life while tending to crop residue with a cutter machine in the fields of Jind district on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Sonit, a 19-year-old resident of Danauda Khurd village in Narwana town, Jind district. He was a student in class XII.

According to reports, Sonit was engaged in processing crop residue using a cutter machine in his field. As he was operating the machine, crop remnants became stuck, prompting him to step down from the driver's seat to clear the obstruction. Tragically, the upper cover of the machine suddenly gave way, causing him to fall into the running machine. The cutter machine inflicted severe injuries, resulting in his instant demise on the spot.

His sister, who was nearby washing clothes near the tube well in their field, rushed to the scene upon hearing his screams. However, by the time she reached, the machine had caused extensive harm to his body in a matter of minutes. The family is understandably devastated by the tragic incident.

Following the occurrence, the deceased's relatives transported his remains to the Narwana civil hospital. They provided a statement to the police, asserting that it was an unfortunate accident that claimed his life. They explained that Sonit had been assisting his father in the crop residue processing task but met with this fatal accident while attempting to clear the cutter machine, which was still in operation.

Jagdish Ram, the SHO (Station House Officer) of Narwana Sadar, informed The Times of India that the police have initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. They have handed over the remains to the deceased's family. The farming family resides within their fields, adding to the tragedy of the situation.
