A farmer lost his arm after he slipped and was pulled into a hay bailing machine.
Warwickshire farmer Andy Webster thankfully escaped with his life after a colleague rushed to his aid and turned the industrial equipment off.
Despite the best efforts of surgeons at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, the 44-year-old's right arm could not be saved.
While Andy - who is known as Log - has suffered a life changing injury, the farmer's friends say he remains upbeat.
In a bid to help him on his way well-wishers Angie and David Miles launched a crowdfunding campaign in a bid to help Andy and wife Ange adjust to their altered life, Birmingham Mail reported.
Six days after a JustGiving page was launched £5,000 has been raised.
“Just days ago whilst bailing he tragically suffered a harrowing farming accident, a gut wrenching ordeal with machinery tore his arm away," a statement on the fundraiser reads.
“Being so badly injured, and despite several hours of surgery, the arm could not be saved & he now faces life as an amputee.
“Yet the blessing we are all thankful for is how incredibly lucky he is to have survived with his life.
“With stalwart character, keen to return to work as soon as possible, never accepting defeat no matter what life throws at him, even under these unimaginable circumstances to have found inner strength to just get on with it as he always does is truly inspirational.
“So lets step up and join together to make a difference, combine our joined hands of friendship in his hour of need, lets do all we can to help him deal with this debilitating and life changing disability.
“Whilst he focuses on recovery and rehabilitation from what has become a full amputation of his right arm and it is hard to imagine how this will continue to impact on him emotionally and physically, however we can all help practically in some way to alleviate pressure and worry of keeping his life together.”
