Farmer and his herd of cows steal the show at Irish Open

A farmer has stolen the limelight at the Irish Open for his afternoon spent watching the golf with his herd of cattle.

The behind closed doors event at Galgorm Castle has struggled to catch public attention as the home challenge have failed to fire - Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington both missed the halfway cut.

But Ballymena farmer Billy O'Kane has been the talk of social media after cameras captured him watching the action from his field that looks out onto the course.

Billy looks hilariously content with a chair set up, a cup of tea in hand and his many cows for company.

He was later joined by others as they enjoyed their afternoon with the European Tour event on their doorstep.

Billy told BBC NI: "I really went to go and check my cows, and also I knew there weren't many people who could go and watch the gold and I could watch it across the river.

"So I took a deck chair and a flask of tea with me and sat and watched five or six groups and the sun was shining.

"I really, really enjoyed it. They are very good players, much better than me."

The final round of the tournaments get underway today with Englishman Aaron Rai holding a one-shot lead over Australian Maverick Antcliff.

Best of the Irish is amateur James Sugrue who is in share of 25th place on two over par for the tournament.
