Farm outfits mull daily march to Parliament

BATHINDA: The farmer organisations of Punjab are considering holding daily march towards the Parliament during its winter session starting November 29. A final decision in the matter will, however, be taken in the meeting of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Tuesday.

The farm groups have also decided to ask Haryana-based farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni to desist from pursuing Mission Punjab, asking farmers to take part in the upcoming assembly elections.

The farm group are likely to hold a press conference in Chandigarh on November 11 or 13. The same day, the farm leaders will meet Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi to press him for accepting their demands. The decisions were taken in a meeting of 32 farmer organisation held on Monday, with BKU Ekta Dakaunda president Buta Singh Burjgill in the chair.

Earlier Charuni had advocated a march towards Parliament on November 26 on the completion of a year into the protests.

According to sources, farmer groups of Punjab want a jatha march during the winter session of Parliament as a mark of one year into the protests against the three contentious farm laws.

A considerable number of farmers would march towards Parliament on tractor trolleys. However, no farmer leader confirmed it on record, saying “wait till Tuesday”.

Burjgill said, “Farm groups of Punjab are not happy over a farm leader pursuing Mission Punjab. “We want him to stop pursuing it or we may hold a press conference in Chandigarh either on November 11 or 13, because the election-oriented Mission Punjab is not in the interests of farmers.”
