Noah Hawley, the creator, writer and producer of Fargo, has signed an overall deal to continue working with its US broadcaster, FX. The two-year agreement will see the TV veteran develop a potential second series of the quirky thriller, as well as a number of new TV projects.

Currently serving as the showrunner on Fargo, Hawley wrote all 10 episodes of the series inspired by the Coen brothers film. Already experiencing rave reviews, it aired its second episode on FX last night.

"Making Fargo has been the highlight of my career," Hawley said. "A writer can search his or her whole career for a network partner who truly understands and encourages their vision. For me, the search is over. When John Landgraf announced, 'At FX, we'd rather make something great for somebody than something good for everybody', I knew I'd found a home."

Although Fargo has not yet been renewed for a second season, Hawley recently revealed he had another round of Fargo in mind. "I'll sit down with FX and MGM sometime in May," he said. "I'm excited to do another one. I could probably see my way clear in doing a third , but I don't really know past that if it's worth doing or whether it's just good to move on to the next thing."

He also suggested that he saw Fargo as an anthology series, picking up after season one with a "new story with new characters." Other current anthology series include American Horror Story but it is also thought that True Detective, if confirmed for a second season, will follow the recently revived format, replacing Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson with alternative stars.

Despite Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman currently receiving acclaim for their performances in Fargo, Hawley added: "The sky's the limit as far as the history of true crime in Minnesota."
