Farewell Theresa May, the former PM's best ever fashion moments

As Theresa May exits number 10 today, she’ll leave a legacy that will most definitely not be defined by her clothes.

However, while there are ‘B’ words of more significance than blouses and boots, it would be remiss to ignore the fact that, unlike so many of her drab Westminster colleagues, the departing PM took a keen interest in fashion. In fact when she featured on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2015, she chose her one luxury for all of eternity to be a subscription to British Vogue.

May once described shoes as the “greatest love of her life” and her fancy footwear choices have provided much fashion editor fodder over the course of her three years and 10 days in office.

Most well documented is her love of a leopard-print heel. She first wore a dainty pair of leopard-print kitten heels by LK Bennett to the Conservative Party Conference in 2002 (back when she was Home Secretary) and has since jazzed up her serious suiting with everything from leopard print brogues to leopard print stilettos. Hell, she’s even got leopard-print trainers.

The rest of May’s wardrobe choices have, like her premiership, been punctuated by highs and lows.

Occasionally straying from her uniform of shift dress, kitten heels, jazzy jacket and boulder necklace, May has made the occasional fashion faux pas - a penchant for patterned puffer jackets and the time she wore wellies with a floaty skirt deserving special mention.

She has however successfully rocked power suiting, belted dresses and jazzy jewellery with great aplomb.
