Dynasty, Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place - how many of these shows can you say you haven't seen?
Aaron Spelling was behind them all - and many more. And now he is no more.
Back in the 70s and 80s, when the UK had far fewer TV channels, there also seemed to be a lot more American shows on television. These shows have now largely migrated off into the multi-channel firmament.
But no matter what time of day, day of the week, you can be certain one of those shows will be showing somewhere.
I was never a particular fan of the Spelling oeuvre, but I've dated plenty of women who were. Most of them (the shows) were pleasant enough ways to pass the time if you couldn't be bothered to do something more intellectually stimulating, but you would be hard pressed to remember what had happened 5 minutes after you stopped watching. Or is that just me?
Share your reminiscences here, or your favourite web links or maybe just have a memorial binge at the Melrose Place drinking game.
