The Flyers did not click on all cylinders in the last two games, but found a way to win both of them.
"Some of the parts of our game have dropped, and other parts have picked us up," defenseman Brandon Manning said after most of the players participated in an optional skate Friday in Voorhees.
Steve Mason, the NHL's No. 1 star of the week, had a subpar game Thursday. No matter. The Flyers overcame a pair of two-goal deficits (2-0, 5-3) in the same game for the first time in franchise history as they outlasted speedy Edmonton, 6-5, for their seventh straight win.
"Our goalies have always been there for us," Manning said, mindful Mason's 42-save performance keyed Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over Florida, "so for us to pick him up and the offense to come through, it's a good sign, for sure."
"Maybe sometimes it's not pretty, but we find ways to get it done," Flyers captain Claude Giroux said.
The Flyers (16-10-3) will try to extend their streak to eight games _ which would equal their longest since 2002 _ when they host Dallas in a Saturday matinee.
Dallas (11-11-6), which is allowing a league-worst 3.18 goals per game, put Jamie Benn, Tyler Sequin, and Jason Spezza on a line for the first time this season Thursday, and they combined for three goals and eight points in a 5-2 win over Nashville.
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare's line figures to be matched against Seguin's unit on Saturday.
During the Flyers' seven-game winning streak, Giroux has five goals, five assists, and is plus-10. He had been minus-9 before the surge.
"Thanks for reminding me," Giroux cracked.
Giroux said his recent domination is team-related.
"It's not one guy working; it's five guys working, so we have to keep it going," he said.
Mason has started 12 of the last 13 games and looked weary on Thursday. He said he felt fine after Friday's practice and he assumed he was starting Saturday.
Coach Dave Hakstol would not reveal his goalie plans for the back-to-back games this weekend. Backup goalie Anthony Stolarz has played only one game since being recalled from the Phantoms to replace the injured Michal Neuvirth, starting the winning streak with a 5-3 victory over visiting Calgary on Nov. 27.
Mason, who has a career-best six-game winning streak, said he thrives on the heavy workload.
"When you're playing well, you want to keep going," he said. "There's also times when you don't play well and it's awesome to go right back at it. When you sit for a game or two or three, that's when it's most tough."
In Thursday's comeback win, "I wasn't as sharp as I'd like to be, but I just went over the video with Dilly ... and there still were some good things that were done," Mason said, referring to goaltender coach Kim Dillabaugh by his nickname. "Although it wasn't as sharp a game as I'd like to have, the foundation for what we've built was still there, which is great. You just have to get ready for the next one."
