'Far better' - Chelsea fans tear into Man United after Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes decision

Mason Mount finished above Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes in the rankings for the Ballon d'Or last night, news that has gone down well with Chelsea fans.

The annual football award, presented by French magazine France Football, was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but returned last night to the delight of footballers and fans across the world.

Reigning European champions Chelsea had five players nominated for the 2021 Ballon d'Or, as Mount was joined by teammates N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Romelu Lukaku and Cesar Azpilicueta on the shortlist.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was also in contention for the Yashin award, but he finished second behind PSG star Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Chelsea did manage to win the Club of the Year award following their successful run in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, Lionel Messi went on to win the top honour for an unprecedented seventh time, beating Jorginho and Kante, who finished third and fifth, respectively.

Whilst Blues fans were disappointed by that result, they were happy to see 22-year-old Mount beat Fernandes in the rankings.

Take a look at what's been said on Twitter.

The Cobham academy graduate finished in 19th place, ahead of the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane, whilst Fernandes - who has admittedly had a stellar year in his own right - finished in joint 21st place alongside Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.

Mount is a key part of Chelsea's short and long-term future, and thus, he will undoubtedly have the chance to improve on his position at some point in his career.
