Fantasy projections for the Cardinals’ starters in Week 8 vs. Saints

The fantasy football regular season is winding down as we are already in the eighth week. Bye week aren’t too bad this week as only two teams — the Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens — get the weekend off.

If available, this is definitely the time to buy low on the Arizona Cardinals offense as they have scored 25 or more points in three straight weeks.

The Cardinals will have a tough matchup ahead when they take on the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA. The Saints are on an incredible five-game winning streak all without the services of quarterback Drew Brees.

Here is a look at what fantasy projections you should expect from some of the Arizona Cardinals starters when they take on the New Orleans Saints.

*Based on ESPN Fantasy Football PPR(points per reception) scoring.*

QB Kyler Murray

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Projection: 23-38 completions, 218 passing yards, one passing touchdown, 4 rushes, 15 yards, 16.22 fantasy points.

The Saints defense has given up an average of 245 passing yards a game and rank No.25 in fantasy yards given up to opposing quarterbacks. While Kyler Murray had a tempered game last week(14-of-22, 104 yards) because of the play running back Chase Edmonds against the New York Giants, he should be much more aggressive against a surging Saints secondary. I predict a modest but solid game from Kyler Murray.

Projection: 22 rushes, 68 yards, one receiving touchdown, 3 receptions, 23 yards, 18.1 fantasy points.

It was the Chase Edmonds Show last week against the Giants as he had a career day rushing for 126 yards and three touchdowns for a total of 35 fantasy points. The Saints defense has not allowed a 100-yard rusher since 2017 and is an extremely tough matchup for running backs ranking at No.4 in points allowed to opposing runners. The streak will continue, but Edmonds should get enough work in the backfield to do some damage as current starting running back David Johnson is dealing an ankle injury that likely will cause him to miss the game.

WR Larry Fitzgerald

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Projection: 6 receptions, 64 yards, 12.4 fantasy points

The Saints defense has ranked in the back-half of the league in points given up to wide receivers coming in at No.24. However, do not let that ranking fool you as the Saints have only given up an average of 44.5 yards per game in the past four weeks when guarding a team’s No.1 receiver. The only hiccup is when the Chicago Bears scored two garbage touchdowns in Week 7 with one going to the Bears’ No.1 receiver Allen Robinson. Temper expectations accordingly especially with Cardinals’ No.2 wide receiver Christian Kirk is still dealing with an ankle injury that has caused him to miss the last three weeks.
