Fantasy football has a way of disregarding even your best intentions.
I was pleased after my draft. A month later I lost Jimmy Garoppolo for the season. Then I received a zero from different kickers in back-to-back weeks. Mike McCoy did his best to ruin David Johnson. Bing, bang, bongo ... I am 1-6 with no where to go, but up.
Don't cry too much for me, Argentina ... I'm doing fine in my other three head-to-head leagues.
Regardless, I had high expectations for my "Garoppolo" squad.
It's time to take stock with six weeks to go in most fantasy regular seasons. Here's a breakdown of what you need to do:
Be honest in the evaluation of your team. Don't be too concerned with your win/loss record. Focus more on points scored/points scored against to determine whether you've been lucky or unlucky.
You're allowed to look forward if you're sitting at 7-0 or 6-1. Start building your optimal team for the playoffs. You can still take chances on injury-returning players if you're 5-2 or 4-3. But if you're 3-4 or worse, it's time to get creative with trades and increase your activity on the waiver wire. Every week is officially important.
Take advantage of desperate owners who are forced to cut players they normally wouldn't.
Fantasy handcuffs make more sense now than draft season. Insure your studs.
