Fantasy Football Week 3: Start Bears’ David Montgomery or Tarik Cohen?

While the Bears offense hasn’t been anything to brag about in the first two weeks of the 2019 season, there have certainly been some fantasy football implications.

NFL.com’s Michael Fabiano has released his “Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em” list for running backs headed into Week 3, and there are two Bears running backs that made the list in rookie David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen.

Washington’s 30th ranked defense provides a favorable match-up for the Bears offense, particularly the run game. The Redskins defense has given up an average 168 rushing yards in its last two games, which should have Chicago’s offense chomping at the bit.

In two weeks it’s become clear that Montgomery is the featured back in Matt Nagy’s running-back-by-committee approach, which is one of the reasons why Fabiano believes you should start him vs. the Redskins. Montgomery leads the Bears with 80 rushing yards, and those numbers should increase against Washington’s defense.

While Cohen has proven to be a fantasy stud in the past, the fact that he saw just 37.5 percent of offensive snaps is a reason why Fabiano believes those with Cohen should sit him this week.

Cohen had just five targets in Chicago’s win against the Broncos. Maybe if it was just Montgomery that Cohen had to contend with things would be a little different. But there’s also Mike Davis, who has seen his share of offensive snaps.

If you’ve got either Montgomery or Cohen on your fantasy football team, Fabiano believes you should plan accordingly.
