Fantasy football: Should you keep or cut these 8 players ahead of Week 8?

You’re waking up on Tuesday reading all that you can about the players that you should be picking up off the waiver wire as you prepare for Week 8 of fantasy football in 2019.

But it’s likely there aren’t as many things written about who you should be dropping to grab those players. That’s what this weekly column — keep ’em or dump ’em! — will hopefully answer for you: Some help in the debate over who you should keep or drop in order to improve your team.

This is turning into a HUGE week of waivers with some big name running backs injured, so hopefully we can help with your decisions over who to drop in order to get their backups.

QB Daniel Jones, New York Giants

Well he’s certainly come back to Earth after that incredible four-touchdown game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rookie is going to turn the ball over a bunch, which negates whatever he brings running. His next few weeks include some plus matchups (the Lions and Jets), but there’s a bye week and some other tough games.

VERDICT: Drop him

RB Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles

He’s carries the ball 18 times … in the past three games combined. WELP. The presence of Jordan Howard is holding him back. That said, he’s involved in the passing game, so sadly, you have to hold on to him for now.

VERDICT: Keep him

RB Kenyan Drake, Miami Dolphins

He’s been in this column before, and while I so badly want to drop him with Mark Walton on the rise and Kalen Ballage finding the end zone recently, you need to keep him this time around if he’s on your roster because … what if the tanking Dolphins trade him to an RB-needy contender?

VERDICT: Keep him

RB Rex Burkhead, New England Patriots

I keep holding out hope he’ll get involved again … but he can’t get healthy and the Pats’ offense is running just fine without him.

VERDICT: Drop him

WR Mohamed Sanu, Atlanta Falcons

There was a nice little stretch there during Weeks 3-5, but the veteran hasn’t seen a lot of volume since then with just six targets in the past two contests.

UPDATE: I literally just published this when I saw the report he had been traded to the Patriots. So we’re changing him to a “keep”:

VERDICT: Keep him

WR Mecole Hardman, Kansas City Chiefs

He’s now part of an offense run by Matt Moore for a few weeks and when Patrick Mahomes does return, he’ll have a bunch of brutal matchups down the stretch.

VERDICT: Drop him

WR Dante Pettis, San Francisco 49ers

Ugh. I picked him up with all those byes this week and hoped he’d build off a decent Week 6 (three catches, 45 yards). Alas.

VERDICT: Drop him

TE T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions

He’s a reminder that a star rookie at tight end might be one of the rarest things in all of football.

VERDICT: Drop him
