Team Defense in fantasy football is starting to become something of the past in many leagues, as fantasy owners want to add more skill player spots instead. Although, Team Defenses also are still found in most standard leagues that you would do at the office or with friends.
A good fantasy football Team Defense is one that creates turnovers, holds opponents to low point totals, and sacks the quarterback.
Strategy tip: Don’t draft them high. Even if Team Defense’s score a decent amount of points in your league, you should still wait, as the total points separating the No. 1 defense and the No. 10 defense is minimal. Wait until your last few picks to select a Team Defense as good options will still be available.
Here are my top Team Defense options for the upcoming season.
Top 10 Team Defenses for 2019:
1. Jacksonville Jaguars – Still young and hungry. They have playmakers at all levels. I expect them to bounce back and be dominant this year.
2. Baltimore Ravens – They’re always good and they’ve retooled. They will be a nightmare defense again after adding Earl Thomas and young players upfront.
3. Los Angeles Rams – They are known for their offense, but their defense is really solid and upgraded enough in 2019 to be a Top 3 unit.
4. Chicago Bears – Top of the league last year, but they lost their defensive coordinator, so I think they drop a bit, but still stay in the Top 5.
5. Detroit Lions – That’s right! I see our Detroit Lions as a top defense this year. Based on what they did last year, the pieces they’ve added, and the youth they now have across the board. Their defensive line should create more turnovers and more explosive plays this season. Good luck running on them and the pass defense will be better too.
6. Houston Texans – Will they be as good as they’ve been? A healthy J.J. Watt and others will still be a very solid defense in Houston.
7. Los Angeles Chargers – I feel this team has Super Bowl aspirations and is often known for their offense, but their defense is deep and talented.
8. Minnesota Vikings – They are often good, but don’t have dominant players on that side of the ball. I see a solid unit, but not a dominant one.
9. Cleveland Browns – Don’t forget about their new and improved defense to go with that high-powered offense. The Browns have really improved on both sides of the ball and I look for them to be an explosive defense this year.
10. Buffalo Bills – The Bills defense will sneak up on you. Not at the top of the household names list, but they have a bunch of good football players. Look for them to impress this year and help keep their team in games.
