Beyond all the glory, trash talk and (many times) money involved in fantasy football, there are also amazing stories that come out of playing the games.
We learned of one earlier this week as the final week for the majority of leagues came to a close: Twitter user @TillThiccle shared that his uncle — his league’s commissioner for over a decade — died on October, but his uncle’s team made it to the title game in the league.
So the opposing team’s owner did the classiest thing: he benched his entire squad against the uncle’s team, allowing the late commissioner to clinch the win.
My uncle passed in October. He was the all time commissioner for the 10 plus years I’ve been playing. He somehow made it to the championship and the other guy did this. You go out a champ, love you Chuck pic.twitter.com/3cnNvK1cMN

Holy smokes where to start. Never thought this would happen but for those asking for the full roster here you go. Also, he has a first round bye and won the semifinal by a more than comfortable margin. pic.twitter.com/lGFU3jUo2m

What an incredible gesture. It lead to some people sharing similar stories of loss tied in with their leagues:
Same thing with my dad in 2013 except the other team still tried to win. He passed away unexpectedly Nov 22nd. Ended up winning it all. He was commish from the start in 2003. I took over as commish after he passed. The league is now named after his team name. ❤️🙏🏼 pic.twitter.com/f6BwPJnBa2

Thanks for sharing this story of a class act. My fantasy football league co-manager passed away 3 weeks ago. We fortunately won the league ‘ship last year. Our team reached the champ game this year again, but failed to go back 2 back… even with DHop, AGibson, DK, Herbert, KHunt

Did the same for my Uncle this year. After he passed, we all pulled our lineups against him. I had the honor of losing the championship to him.
