For fantasy football, there are a few ways to play. There is the typical re-draft league in which a player drafts a new team each year, and there is the dynasty league where a player keeps the team they initially drafted for years.
In dynasty leagues, the thinking is more long-term than it is short-term. This places an emphasis on younger players in favorable situations, such as Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack.
While most wouldn’t consider him at top-10 fantasy running back, he does hold more value in dynasty leagues. Mike Tagliere of FantasyPros believes he holds the most dynasty value on the Colts’ roster.
Marlon Mack (RB) Current ADP: RB21
The Colts said all along that they were happy and content with Mack as their lead running back, and their draft reflected that. Sure, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins are there, but Hines is strictly a pass-catcher, while Wilkins is Mack’s backup. He’s just 23 years old playing behind maybe the best offensive line in football with one of the best quarterbacks in football. There aren’t 20 running backs who are above him.
Mack finds himself in a solid situation leading the Colts backfield. He’s in a high-volume offense with one of the best quarterbacks in the game behind an offensive line that constantly opens up running lanes.
The USF product is entering his third season in the league with an expectation that he will get the most touches in the backfield. There is a lot of upside that he will finish with a better ranking than his draft spot.
While Mack finished the 2018 season as the RB19 in standard scoring, he was the RB7 from Week 6 on following his return from a nagging hamstring injury. He averaged 14.3 fantasy points per game over that 11-game stretch to end the season.
If Mack can stay healthy, he should be in the conversation to be a high-end RB2 (top 24) with potential to have RB1 (top 12) weeks.
Regardless, his age, skill set and situation make him one of the best dynasty values at the position.
