The Denver Broncos agreed to trade wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and a fifth-round draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday in exchange for a third-round pick and a fourth-round selection.
Let’s take a look at some of the fantasy football implications of the trade.
Stock up: 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo
Garoppolo hasn’t had a great statistical start to the season but that’s due in part to his lack of receiving options on offense. Now that Sanders has been added to San Francisco’s lineup, Garoppolo’s stock should go up.
Stock down: Broncos QB Joe Flacco
Even with Sanders, Flacco wasn’t putting up any relevant numbers in fantasy football this season. With Sanders now out of the picture, Flacco’s fantasy value could take a hit. He’s not worth starting unless you play in a deep league and are really thin at QB.
Stock up: Broncos WR Courtland Sutton
Sutton had actually emerged as Denver’s new No. 1 receiver even before the Sanders trade, leading the team with 36 receptions for 564 yards and three touchdowns through seven games. With Sanders now out of the picture, Sutton is poised to remain Flacco’s favorite target.
Stock up: 49ers WR Emmanuel Sanders
Sanders got off to a slow start this year, catching 30 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns. Those aren’t terrible numbers but he had just two catches in Week 3 and just one catch in back-to-back games from Weeks 5-6. He should be more involved in the 49ers’ offense right away.
Stock up: Broncos WR DaeSean Hamilton
Hamilton has just 11 catches for 106 yards this year and he’s probably not going to emerge as a fantasy star in 2019 but he’s worth picking up if you’re thin at wide receiver. Hamilton will now become the Broncos’ No. 2 wide receiver and will be poised to receive more targets.
