A limited wintertime show involving an array of projected images around a huge jellyfish tank is gaining popularity at Sumida Aquarium near Tokyo Skytree.
The kanji for jellyfish is the combined characters of ocean and moon. In keeping with this, images of the moon's phases and jellyfish are aptly projected onto walls, floors and ceilings to create a fantastical spectacle. Baby jellyfish that look like stars appear on the walls like shooting stars. Jellyfish floating on waves are cast on the floor, and the moon gradually goes through its phases on the ceiling. Each video is about three minutes long.
The giant water tank, which was introduced last summer, allows visitors to view from above about 500 moon jellyfish floating around in a hypnotic display.
"Please enjoy the different dimensions of space by watching the images of the moon and stars together with jellyfish," an official of the aquarium's public relations team said. The show will run until Feb. 14.
