Sydney violinist Grace Clifford, who won the 2014 ABC Young Performer of the Year , returns to the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to play three pieces written by composers in their youth.
The young Finnish composer Jean Sibelius dreamed of becoming a virtuosic violinist, and though he could not play, he composed a violin concerto instead. Hector Berlioz fell hopelessly in love with an actress in his 20s, and his composition Fantastic Symphony was the result of his unrequited love. When Messiaen was 23, he wrote Le Tombeau, a musical concerto that dances and sings from the heart. Nicholas Carter will conduct the suite.
