Fantastic Beasts 3: Sequel starring Eddie Redmayne and Johnny Depp will be set in Brazil

The latest instalment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise will go into production next year, Warner Bros has confirmed.

Deadline reports that the third film will be set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and sees the return of the original cast including Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, and Ezra Miller as Credence/Aurelius Dumbledore.

Comedian and actor Jessica Williams, who made a brief appearance in The Crimes of Grindelwald, will reportedly have a bigger role. She plays Professor Eulalie "Lally" Hicks, who teaches at the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (the American equivalent of Hogwarts).

Last year it was also confirmed that Johnny Depp would reprise his role as the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald, to some controversy.

Production was originally supposed to begin in July this year, but was postponed following the critical reaction to The Crimes of Grindewald, which Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara admitted "didn't perform as well as the first". He said that the people involved in the series were determined to "get it right" with the third movie.

The yet-to-be-titled Fantastic Beasts sequel will be directed by David Yates and produced by David Heyman, Steve Kloves, and Harry Potter creator JK Rowling.

It is expected to be released in cinemas on 12 November 2021.
