St Johnstone players became heroes on Sunday when they lifted the Betfred Cup at Hampden.
And the Perthshire Advertiser can reveal the club and Perth and Kinross Council will look to mark the victory once COVID-19 restrictions ease.
Shaun Rooney’s header was enough to defeat Livingston in the final.
Saints fans would have been left nursing sore heads on Monday morning after a night of celebrating, despite the match being played behind closed doors.
And unlike after the Scottish Cup final of 2014, there was no parade through Perth due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But gaffer Callum Davidson told the Perthshire Advertiser on Monday morning: “I know the fans want to celebrate with us when it’s allowed and it’s safe for everyone to enjoy the occasion.
“The club definitely wants to organise something so everyone can mark this achievement.
“We had never won this cup so we need to celebrate properly.
“It is huge, especially given where this club has come from. But it is important we do it right.”
Council leader Murray Lyle revealed that although he wanted to avoid “rash” promises, the local authority would be eager to arrange a celebration once it is possible.
He said:“Definitely, as soon as we get the opportunity and can, we will be on the front foot to help celebrate what is an outstanding achievement.”
A council spokesperson said: “Obviously with the current restrictions we cannot offer a parade like we did in 2014; however when the time is appropriate we will find a way to mark their wonderful achievement and celebrate as a city.”
