Fans will absolutely love what Nottingham Forest did after Reading match was rained off

Nottingham Forest have made sure “nothing has gone to waste” after the postponement of this afternoon’s clash with Reading.

The Reds were due to take on the Royals at the City Ground, but the Championship match was postponed after heavy rain overnight “left large areas of the pitch in an unplayable condition”, according to the club.

After a pitch inspection at noon, the game was called off - and a new date for the rearranged contest has not yet been announced.

But Forest have made sure any left over food has gone to a good cause.

Almost 3,000 items of food parcels - including pies, pasties, hot dogs and bread rolls - were donated to the charity Framework which helps to support the homeless and delivers housing, health, employment, support and care services to people with a diverse range of needs.

Forest’s chief financial officer Sam Gordon and Nottingham Forest Community Trust CEO Graham Moran handed out the left over food to representatives from Framework after the match had been called off.

The Reds also have a partnership with local food bank charity Hope Nottingham, which has continued into 2019/20.

Food bank collections have been held at the City Ground, with fans having donated tonnes of food to the charity.
