Nate Diaz made his long-awaited return to the octagon back in August with his UFC 241 win over Anthony Pettis. But just two months later, Diaz’s UFC career is back into uncertain territory.
Diaz was set to fight Jorge Masvidal as the headliner of next week’s UFC 244 in New York, but the welterweight star tweeted Thursday that an apparent failed drug test is forcing him out of the event.
He tweeted a denial of taking banned substances and claimed his test sample must have been sabotaged. (Warning: A lot of NSFW language):
Masvidal replied that he would still see Diaz on Nov. 2 for the fight in New York.
UPDATE: ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reports that Diaz is not suspended.
So, yeah, UFC fans were surprised … to say the least. Some were certain that the fight would still happen.
