Fans trying to remain calm as Newcastle United takeover appears to move a step closer to completion

Newcastle United fans are on the edge of their seats following the uploading of documents to Companies Hosue regarding a possible takeover of the club.

Fans have wrapped up in takeover frenzy several times before as they hope for an end to Mike Ashley's ownership but this certainly feels like the closest a deal has come.

Documents were uploaded from PCP - the company owned by Amanda Staveley and contained some sort of loan between St James Holding.

At the very least, it confirms that talks are an advanced stage - and the very most, it suggests that a deposit may have even be paid.

Fans on social media have shown a mixture of excitement but equal caution over what some think could be another false dawn.

It was back in January that news originally broke of a potential deal between Staveley - backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, and Ashley.

Staveley had tried to buy the club the year before when Rafa Benitez was in charge but a deal could not be agreed.

Newcastle have continued to issue a no comment on the matter.
