Fans troll Conor McGregor as they point out real reason why he's world's highest paid athlete per minute

Conor McGregor has boasted on social media about how he earned more money per minute than any other athlete in the world last year.

Research shows that the Dubliner earned a jaw-dropping $8.6million for every minute he was inside the octagon in 2021, but that only tells part of the story.

Fans pointed out that the figure would be much lower had McGregor lasted longer in his two fights with Dustin Poirier.

The Notorious was knocked out for the first time in his UFC career by Poirier in the second round of their Abu Dhabi rematch last January as the American gained revenge for his 2014 defeat to McGregor.

But the former two-weight champion didn't even make it as far as the second round in their trilogy bout last July after his leg snapped towards the end of the first.

Both fights were scheduled for five rounds and the amount per minute earned would have been much less if McGregor had of survived longer in both fights.

One fan said: "That's what happens when you lose so fast.

Another pointed out: "Cause you got your butt kicked so fast."

Someone else highlighted: "Would've been less if you weren't knocked out so fast."

Just behind McGregor in the list was boxer Canelo, American football star Tom Brady and footballers Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.
